SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A monument to a slain Utah County sergeant has been completed in the fallen officer's hometown.
A ceremony in American Fork honors Sgt. Cory Wride and unveils the tribute at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The monument is in Robinson Park.
Wride was shot and killed Jan. 30 when he stopped to check on a pickup on the shoulder of State Road 73 near Eagle Mountain.
Police say the officer was sitting in his patrol car when 27-year-old Jose Angel Garcia-Jauregui fired at him through the rear window.
The shooter reportedly fled, shooting and wounding another officer in Santaquin.
He died from injuries sustained in police fire.
Meagan Grunwald, a 17-year-old also in the truck, has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder in connection with the shooting spree.
