COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Former Ohio State University president Gordon Gee is stepping down from his role at the state's private economic development agency, JobsOhio.
Gee announced his departure Tuesday at the JobsOhio board meeting in Columbus, saying it would be his last. The 70-year-old Gee is now president of West Virginia University. He has been a board member of the job-creation agency since its inception in 2011.
Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik), who appointed Gee to the board, thanked him for his service during the meeting and said he would be missed.
Gee told the governor that while the board faced political resistance at the beginning, it has had much success.
Ohio's Supreme Court recently denied legal standing to the agency's opponents in a legal fight that dogged JobsOhio since its creation.
