LOS ANGELES (AP) — A California appeals court has upheld a $19 million judgment against "Girls Gone Wild" founder Joe Francis in a slander case filed over his claims that casino mogul Steve Wynn threatened to kill him. In a 2012 trial, Francis said he was told Wynn had threatened to hit him in the head with a shovel and have him buried in the desert. Wynn denied making such threats and claimed the statements by Francis damaged his reputation and put his casino license at risk.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say they made 30 arrests for solicitation for prostitution during a sweep on the edge of downtown during the first weekend of the Reno Rodeo. Police used sting money provided from a federal grant to help make the arrests. It was part of a nationwide campaign to help locate juvenile victims of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation. The suspects ranged in age from 18 to 51.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 19-year-old Spanish Springs man has been charged with murder in the shooting of his father. Washoe County sheriff's deputies say they filed an open murder charge yesterday against Brandon Moore-Montgomery. His father, 45-year-old Jeffery Montgomery, died a week after the shooting and the charges against his son were upgraded.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The decision by the Mormon church to excommunicate Ordain Women founder Kate Kelly comes at a time when the church is under pressure to recognize gay rights and allow women into the priesthood. Experts believe the move essentially draws a line in the sand to show church members how far they can go in publicly questioning church practices. Church officials had no immediate comment.
