He told ABC that there's "an opportunity for Iraq to come up with its own choice." Kerry has wrapped up a two-day visit to Iraq aimed at curbing sectarian violence.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House official who once worked at the IRS testifies before Congress today about the agency scandal. Republicans say they don't buy the contention by the head of the IRS that he's seen no evidence anyone committed a crime when the agency lost emails that might shed light on the targeting of tea party and other political groups. Testimony today comes from Jennifer O'Connor, who helped the IRS gather documents related to the congressional investigations.
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — Security forces are denying that dozens more Nigerians have been abducted by Islamic extremists. Villagers say members of Boko Haram (BOH'-koh hah-RAHM') kidnapped 60 girls and women and 31 boys on Saturday. The group is still holding more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped April 15.
MIAMI (AP) — Police say they're still trying to determine how many people were wounded in a shooting on a Miami street early this morning. Two people were killed. Police say some victims walked into the hospital on their own and others were driven by friends. There's no word on a motive or possible arrests.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — An Anchorage, Alaska man wanted on several felony warrants says he decided to turn himself in to state troopers because they've been more courteous than other law enforcement he's encountered. Brian Fahey told authorities he was watching an episode of the TV reality show "Alaska State Troopers" and saw how "professional and courteous" they were. KTVA reports that Fahey turned himself in to troopers Friday on outstanding warrants of felony escape and related offenses.
