NEWBURGHY, N.Y. (AP) — A Hudson Valley police officer returning from drug overdose training used his newly acquired skills to revive a man who had overdosed inside a library bathroom.
Police in Newburgh tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown (http://bit.ly/1pIdspx ) that Lt. Tom Murphy had attended a training session last Thursday on how to use the overdose antidote naloxone. Less than an hour later, he was returning from the Fire Academy in nearby Goshen when he and another officer responded to a report of an unresponsive man at the Newburgh library.
They found a 24-year-old man slumped inside stall, with a package of hypodermic needles nearby. Police say Murphy used a dose of the drug he brought back from the training to revive the man, who was taken to a hospital for treatment.
