RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 61-year-old man who was paroled from prison in November after serving more than 20 years for the murder of his fiancee in southern Nevada has been charged in the suspected murder of a woman at a Reno motel.
Police say Zollie Edward Dumas originally was charged with a parole violation after he told investigators he had killed a woman June 16 at the Lucky Motel on Fourth Street east of downtown.
Police identified the victim Monday as 49-year-old Carolyn Jo Smith. They said they completed an investigation into her death and subsequently charged Dumas with suspicion of open murder with a deadly weapon.
Dumas was convicted in 1988 in the stabbing death of Angela Griffin of Henderson.
He's being held without bail at the Washoe County jail. His initial court appearance is pending.
