Bergdahl makes progress...Iraq conflict continues... Israel hits targets in Syria after cross-border attack

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — The military says Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's "reintegration process" is proceeding with exposure to more people and a gradual increase of social interactions. The Army says the former prisoner of war in Afghanistan has been released from inpatient care at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas and is now receiving outpatient care at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Sunni militants are continuing to gain ground in western Iraq. Fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, captured two border crossings Sunday, one along the frontier with Jordan and the other with Syria, after government forces had pulled out. The al-Qaida inspired militants also have seized four towns in the mostly Sunni Anbar province since Friday.

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says it has carried out airstrikes on nine targets inside Syria, including a regional command center, in response to a deadly cross-border attack that killed an Israeli teenager. The airstrikes early Monday took place in the vicinity of Sunday's violence in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights.

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia's prime minister says he told Egypt's president that an Australian journalist is innocent of charges that he supported the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. Australian Peter Greste is one of three Al-Jazeera journalists who face judgment in a Cairo court Monday on charges they supported the Brotherhood. The three were arrested in December.

CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — Problems in the Middle East, especially the growing sectarian conflict in Iraq, is worrying oil traders and that's pushing the price of crude higher. It could lead to an increase in the price of gasoline. The Lundberg Survey says the average price of regular gas in the U.S. has risen by 2 cents in the last two weeks. It's now $3.71 a gallon.
