BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials say a suicide bomber detonated explosives at the hall where an army general's funeral was being held on Sunday and minutes later, a car bomb went off as the mourners were fleeing. The officials say eight people were killed and 13 injured. The attack was near Ramadi, the capital of the restive Anbar province where insurgents have gained a major foothold.

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. military says it has successfully intercepted a target warhead over the Pacific Ocean in a test of the nation's Ballistic Missile Defense System. Program officials will spend the next several months assessing the data obtained during today's test. It was the 65th successful intercept since 2001 for the BMDS.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The community that mourned two slain Las Vegas police officers is now remembering a man who died while trying to stop the shooting rampage. Nearly 400 people attended a memorial service today in Las Vegas for Joseph Wilcox who was gunned down at a Wal-Mart after he pulled out his legally concealed gun to try and stop the couple who'd just shot the officers.

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Officials say foul play is suspected in the deaths of two inmates at a federal prison in Southern California. A prison spokesman says the inmates died late Saturday and the FBI is investigating their deaths as homicides. No prison workers were harmed. All inmates are on lockdown at the Victorville facility which houses 1,300 prisoners.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — A Rhode Island native working on her doctorate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has died after she reportedly slipped while jogging and fell several hundred feet off a cliff in northern India. MIT officials say the body of 28-year-old Kaitlin Goldstein of Providence was found Saturday. She was in India to participate in a workshop.
