DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin is now backing Ukraine's cease-fire plan and appealing to both sides to halt all military operations. A Kremlin statement says Putin is calling on the opposing sides to "halt any military activities and sit down at the negotiating table." Ukraine's president ordered Ukrainian troops to observe a unilateral, week-long cease-fire starting last night.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A military official says a South Korean soldier has killed five comrades and wounded another five at the border with North Korea. The official with South Korea's Defense Ministry says the army sergeant opened fire with a rifle at an outpost east of Seoul. The official wouldn't confirm media reports that the shooter is still at large. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, citing department rules.
DENVER (AP) — Colorado authorities say they've received numerous tips as they investigate a shooting involving rapper ScHoolboy Q after a concert at the Red Rocks amphitheater west of Denver. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says investigators are still trying to determine a motive but they don't think it was a random act of violence. The rapper wasn't hurt in Thursday night's shooting, but three other people in a vehicle with him suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) — Police say U.S. women's soccer star Hope Solo has been arrested at a suburban Seattle home, accused of assaulting her sister and nephew. Officers say they responded just before 1 a.m. Saturday, after receiving a 911 call that a woman was hitting people. Police say they found Solo intoxicated and upset, and they saw injuries on her 17-year-old nephew and her sister. She was arrested for investigation of two counts of fourth-degree domestic violence assault and booked into jail. Solo is a goalkeeper for the U.S. women's national team.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Firefighters are reporting significant progress against a wildfire that has consumed more than 21 square miles of forest and grazing land on the Navajo Nation near the Arizona-New Mexico border. They say the Assayii (UH'-say-eye) Lake Fire is 40 percent contained. The blaze has destroyed at least five structures and 50 homes are still threatened.
