LAS VEGAS (AP) — Uniformed Las Vegas constables are suspending enforcement of a state law requiring new residents to promptly obtain in-state license plates. Deputy Chief Las Vegas Constable Dean Lauer tells the Review-Journal the office needs to determine the effect of a federal judge's preliminary injunction barring the collection of a $100 fee from a Utah woman accused of failing to register her vehicle after 30 days.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A consultant says tax money will be needed for a 50,000-seat UNLV football stadium. Bill Rhoda told project board members there will have to be public funding, and that stadium income and donations will also be needed. The Review-Journal reports the project could cost from $500 million to more than $700 million, depending whether it's open-air or domed.
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. (AP) — Colorado authorities have arrested a man wanted on a murder charge in Illinois who escaped while being transported from Las Vegas. Police say Turhan Robinson escaped from a private inmate-transport service at a truck stop in a Denver suburb early today. Authorities announced his capture this afternoon.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Officials at Reno's National Automobile Museum say a small fire early this morning will force its closure at least through the middle of next week. Museum officials said the fire broke out in the museum lobby and caused "limited damage" to the building and an Ed "Big Daddy" Roth custom-made trike on display near the main entrance. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
