ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — Several hundred students from a struggling St. Louis County school district will not return next year to the St. Charles County school system where they had transferred.
About 410 students from the Normandy School District transferred to the Francis Howell School District under a Missouri law requiring unaccredited school systems to pay for students who want to transfer. Francis Howell officials expected 350 students to return in August.
But the state is dissolving the Normandy district, which had been unaccredited, and replacing it with a new Normandy Schools Collaborative. The State Board of Education this week decided not to classify the collaborative as unaccredited, and Francis Howell has had a policy since 2005 of not accepting transfer students unless required by law.
