MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Ball State University's top academic administrator will be its interim president for a month this summer.

Ball State's Board of Trustees on Thursday approved naming Provost Terry King to lead the university after current President Jo Ann Gora steps down June 30. The trustees last month selected University of Maine President Paul Ferguson as Ball State's new president starting Aug. 1.

King says he'll aim to ensure a smooth transition in leadership of the 18,000-student campus in Muncie.

Gora has been Ball State's president for 10 years.
