WESSINGTON SPRINGS, S.D. (AP) — The National Weather Service says a confirmed tornado has hit a small town in central South Dakota. Law enforcement in Wessington Springs reported the tornado went right "through the heart of town" just before 8 p.m. Central time. A spokeswoman for the hospital in town says one patient in good condition is being treated as a result of the tornado.

STARKE, Fla. (AP) — The state of Florida has executed a man who murdered his estranged wife and her young son in 1985. John Ruthell Henry asked for forgiveness and apologized for what he'd done. It was the third U.S. execution in less than 24 hours since a botched April lethal injection in Oklahoma.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama and congressional leaders believe he doesn't need authorization from Congress for some steps he might take to quell the al-Qaida-inspired insurgency in Iraq. The president briefed senior lawmakers Wednesday at the White House on possible options.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shelly Sterling's attorneys will ask a judge to order Donald Sterling and his attorneys to not threaten, harass or intimidate his wife's legal team and doctors who determined the Los Angeles Clippers' co-owner was mentally incapacitated. A person with knowledge of the legal proceedings says the urgent request will be made Thursday.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A team at the Smithsonian Institution has scanned President Barack Obama to create the first 3D printed portrait of a sitting president. Digital imaging specialists recently created a 3D printed bust and life mask of Obama, which will become part of his presidential depictions in the National Portrait Gallery collection. Both were shown Wednesday at a gathering of inventors, entrepreneurs and students at the White House.
