ST. LOUIS (AP) — Missouri education officials have selected a new superintendent for a school for blind and visually impaired students.
Geoffrey Barney will take over at the Missouri School for the Blind beginning with the upcoming academic year. The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced the appointment Tuesday.
He will succeed Patty Yocum, who is retiring after five years.
Barney has served as a building administrator and area director for the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled. He has 12 years' experience in education administration and has also taught Spanish and biology.
Barney holds a bachelor's degree in zoology from Brigham Young University and a master's in educational administration from Chapman University.
The Missouri School for the Blind is located in St. Louis and also helps school districts statewide.
