STATESVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A handful of protesters have been on the road for more than a week as they try raising support for North Carolina to legalize marijuana use for medical purposes.
Five men have been hiking for more than a week on an Asheville-to-Raleigh trek aimed at pushing legislators to place a referendum on the November ballot and let voters decide the issue.
Four of the men carried signs calling for legalization as they walked through Statesville and the rest of Iredell County this week.
Legislation to set up a referendum on whether to change the state constitution and allow medical marijuana appears unlikely this year. The bill was introduced last month and hasn't seen any action.
