DENVER (AP) -- Joe Cannon notched his first shutout of the season and Nicolas Hernandez scored in the 16th minute, lifting the Colorado Rapids past Real Salt Lake 1-0 Friday night.
The win snaps Real's five game unbeaten streak and moves the Rapids into a second place tie with Houston in the Western Division.
Hernandez scored his second goal of the season after taking the ball on a turnover and playing it to Jacob Peterson. The ball bounced off a defender and back to Hernandez, who took a hard shot that flew over Real goalie Scott Garlick and into the net.
Cannon, playing his first game since sitting out with a strained groin, hasn't allowed a goal at home in 221 straight minutes.
