ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Major league umpire Jim Wolf will miss at least a series with his crew after talking a foul ball off his mask.
The Rangers provided an update Tuesday, a day after Wolf came out of a game in Texas. The team said Major League Baseball officials were monitoring Wolf and that he was expected to miss several days.
Wolf's crew had switched to New York, where the Mets opened a three-game series against Milwaukee on Tuesday night.
Wolf was behind home plate Monday night in the series finale between Cleveland and Texas when a foul ball struck his mask in the sixth inning. He was tended to by a trainer before being replaced behind the plate by second base umpire Mark Ripperger.
