NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Daniel Rizzie doubled and drove in a pair of runs to lead Xavier to their second ever NCAA baseball tournament victory, 6-4 over Clemson on Saturday in an elimination game.
The Musketeers (30-28) took control after a nearly 2-hour weather delay, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Rizzie's RBI single that slipped under left fielder Garrett Boulware's glove and rolled to the fence. Mitch Elliott added another run on the error to make it 6-2.
The Tigers (36-25) got a two-run homer to right by Steve Wilkerson in the eighth.
Clemson's run of 26 tournament appearances with a win ended. The Tigers hadn't gone two-and-out in the tournament since 1981.
Xavier will play Oregon in another elimination game Sunday. The Musketeers fell to host Vanderbilt 11-0 Friday.
