DETROIT (AP) — Brothers Jordan and Ricky Taylor went to the front early and held on to win the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, the fifth race in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
Ricky Taylor hit the wall on the final lap Saturday but regained the lead when Joao Barbosa lost a tire. Pole-sitter Richard Westbrook made a run at him through the last two turns but never could catch the prototype Corvette DP. He finished 0.208 seconds behind.
"The last couple of laps were really tooth-and-nail," said Ricky Taylor, who watched Barbosa get closer in the final few circuits and said he had trouble controlling the car after the crash. "If there was one more lap, I don't think the car would've made it."
Barbosa and teammate Chrisitan Fittipaldi lost their series points lead after finishing sixth.
Jordan Taylor started fifth while driving the first 40 minutes of the co-driver race. He took the lead from pole-sitter Michael Valiante 25 minutes into the 1-hour, 40-minute race.
Alessandro Balzan and Jeff Westphal teamed to win the GT Daytona class in a Ferrari. Ian James and Mario Farnbacher's Porsche was second.
