LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 31-year-old Las Vegas mother of three accused of shooting her 11-year-old son told police she also planned to kill herself but her brother-in-law grabbed the rifle from her.
Shavon Jacklein Carrillo is due before a judge Thursday for an initial appearance on attempted murder and child abuse charges.
Carrillo, who also uses the name Shavon Aguilar, remained Wednesday at the Clark County jail following her arrest early Monday at a northeast Las Vegas apartment.
Police say the boy remains in critical condition at a Las Vegas hospital.
Carrillo told investigators she shot the boy because she was distraught about breaking up with his father, her husband of 12 years.
Police say Carrillo admitted using methamphetamine and said she thought that if she and her son died, they'd be together.
