FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Firefighters are slowly making progress in controlling a wildfire in a northern Arizona canyon. It covers 21 square miles and is now 10 percent contained. Crews have been setting fires to rob the blaze of its natural forest fuels. The human-caused Slide Fire has been burning around Oak Creek Canyon, a scenic recreation area near Sedona and Flagstaff.

UNDATED (AP) — A wildfire in Alaska's Kenai (KEEN'-eye) Peninsula now covers more than 193 square miles. Fire officials say the blaze is about 20 percent contained. It threatens cabins, vacation homes and year-round residences in three communities but no evacuation orders have yet been issued. Authorities have, however, told people in those areas to be ready to leave.

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — It appears a wealthy businessman has won Ukraine's presidential election outright in the first round. An exit poll conducted by three respected survey agencies shows billionaire candy-maker Petro Poroshenko getting 55.9 percent of the vote with former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko coming in a distant second. Complete results are expected Monday.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Former Colombian Finance Minister Oscar Ivan Zuluaga appears to have won the most votes in the first round of the country's presidential election, delivering a blow to President Juan Manuel Santos' re-election bid. But Zuluaga is failing to secure enough votes to avoid a runoff against the incumbent. The runoff is scheduled for June 15.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Ryan Hunter-Reay (ray) is the first American to win the Indianapolis 500 since 2006. He made a dramatic pass of Helio Castroneves (EHL'-ee-oh kas-troh-NEH'-vehz) on the final lap to win today's race by less than a second. It was the second-closest finish in history. Kurt Busch who finished sixth flew to North Carolina for tonight's NASCAR Sprint Cup race.
