DOSWELL, Va. (AP) — More than 100 searchers are combing through a wooded area near Richmond, Virginia, looking for the third occupant of a hot-air balloon that crashed in flames last night. The bodies of two other people have been recovered. Witnesses say they heard cries for help from the passengers as the balloon touched a power line and burst into flames.
YOLA, Nigeria (AP) — A team of French experts has arrived in Nigeria to help look for more than 270 schoolgirls being held by Islamic extremists. The French team joins British security experts who arrived yesterday to help Nigerian and American forces in the search. Meanwhile, militants continue their violent attacks. Residents of a town in northeastern Nigeria say Islamic extremists killed an unknown number of people yesterday, abducted the wife and two children of a retired police officer, then blew up a bridge to prevent the military from pursuing them.
SANAA, Yemen (AP) — Yemen's defense ministry says its forces have killed seven alleged al-Qaida militants as part of a stepped-up offensive by the military. And governor of a city in southern Yemen says al-Qaida militants kidnapped five civilians from local tribes they were formerly allied with, in retaliation for cooperating with the Yemeni army. The governor is asking the Red Cross to help find the abducted citizens and provide relief to refugees fleeing the fighting.
BAGHDAD (AP) — A series of bombings in Iraq has left 19 people dead. Police officials say the deadliest of today's attacks happened in a town north of Baghdad when a suicide bomber drove a car packed with explosives into a security checkpoint. Six security force members and a civilian were killed and 15 people wounded.
BOSTON (AP) — Two Boston Marathon spectators who became symbols of courage after last year's bombing have teamed up for a graduation speech. Jeff Bauman (BOW'-man) lost his legs in the attack. He told graduates at Fisher College in Boston to keep moving forward and seize the opportunities that lie ahead. Carlos Arredondo, who helped save Bauman's life, stressed the importance of community and teamwork. Both men beamed with pride after receiving honorary degrees.
