PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Michael Carter-Williams of the Philadelphia 76ers has been named the NBA's Rookie of the Year. The guard averaged 16.7 points, 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds a game for the Sixers. He was the 11th overall pick out of Syracuse.
UNDATED (AP) — There are two NHL second-round playoff games tonight. In New York the Rangers are facing off with Pittsburgh in the third game of that series, which is tied at 1-1. And in Anaheim the Ducks are entertaining the Kings. This is the second game of that series with L.A. on top after a 3-2 overtime win in Game 1.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have fired coach Kirk Muller and most of his coaching staff. In three seasons in charge Muller had a record of 80-80-27. The Hurricanes have not been in the playoffs since 2009.
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods says his injured back is improving slowly after surgery. The world's top-ranked player underwent surgery for a pinched nerve on March 31 and on his website Woods says he's not sure when he'll be able to return to competitive play.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Clint Bowyer (BOY'-ur) and the Michael Waltrip Racing team have agreed to a three-year contract extension. He finished third in yesterday's Aaron's 499 race in Talladega, Ala.
