NEW YORK, Jun 6, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Postal Service is celebrating the life and legacy of entertainer Judy Garland through her music and a new first-class postage stamp.
The 39-cent stamp is the 12th in the "Legend of Hollywood" series. The stamp will debut in New York Saturday and will go nationwide the following day, the service said in a release. The Judy Garland stamp is the first in the program to be debuted anywhere other than Los Angeles.
The stamp was designed using a portrait of Garland from a publicity photo for "A Star is Born." Her signature is at the bottom of the stamp, and the photo on the border shows her in her most popular role as Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz."
The U.S. Postal Service is honoring Garland on what would have been her 84th birthday.
