GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — University of Florida students are asking county officials to create an early voting site on campus.
Student advocates delivered a petition with 1,800 signatures Friday to the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections.
Their actions come after the Florida Division of Elections in February rejected the use of the Reitz Student Union Building as an early voting site for the 2014 elections. The site is used as a polling location on election day.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida says the decision will suppress the vote and make it impossible for tens of thousands of students and staff to participate in the elections unless the student union or alternative campus building is designated.
