BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (AP) — Residents of Laughlin, Nevada, are voicing displeasure and concern that Las Vegas-based University Medical Center plans to close its health-care facility in the gambling resort town along the Colorado River.
The Mohave Valley Daily News (http://bit.ly/1fQaNCK ) reports that UMC announced April 18 it will close its Laughlin facility on May 31 along with several facilities in the Las Vegas area because they are not "financially viable."
Laughlin Town Advisory Board Chairman James Vincent says UMC's decision to close the Laughlin facility would eliminate the only option in town for primary and non-emergency health care for many people.
UMC spokeswoman Dania says UMC cares about people needing health care but she says UMC can't be all things to all people.
