PROVO — With just four months until the start of the 2014 football season, the BYU Cougars appear to have locked up their bowl destination, should they be eligible.

ESPN's Brett McMurphy reported Monday that BYU will play a team from the American Athletic Conference in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl in December.

The Miami Beach Bowl will be played the week before Christmas at Marlins Park, the home of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins. An exact date has not been determined.

BYU has already agreed to bowl games in 2016 and 2018, facing a team from the Mountain West Conference in the Poinsettia Bowl.

The Cougars last played a bowl game in the state of Florida back in the 1985 Citrus Bowl. BYU's only other bowl game in Florida took place in 1976 when the Cougars played in the Tangerine Bowl.

If bowl eligible, BYU will play three games in the Eastern time zone in 2014. Besides the Miami Beach Bowl, BYU will open the season at UConn and will travel to Orlando to face the University of Central Florida. The Cougars are 0-5 all-time in the Sunshine State.

Under head coach Bronco Mendenhall, BYU has appeared in nine consecutive bowl games, tied for the 10th-longest streak in college football.
