FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) — The University of Mary Washington is seeking to raise $50 million in private funds for scholarships, restoration of the campus amphitheater and other initiatives.
President Richard Hurley says the fundraising effort is necessary in order for the university to remain affordable, competitive and able to attract what he calls "the best and brightest minds."
University officials launched the public phase of the Mary Washington First campaign on Friday.
Mary Washington raised about $29 million during the campaign's non-public phases over the past three years.
