PROVO, Utah (AP) — Provo Mayor John Curtis is asking for the public's help as the city teams with federal authorities to find one or more arsonists responsible for a series of fires in Utah County. Curtis held a news conference Wednesday to discuss the task force he has formed to solve the apparent string of arson fires in the area. Three more fires Tuesday brought the total number of blazes to 10 since March 13.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who was fatally shot by a U.S. marshal while attacking a witness during a federal trial in Utah this week promised the judge at the start of the hearing that he behave. A court transcript of Monday's hearing in Salt Lake City shows that U.S. District Judge Tena Campbell asked Siale Angilau if he would be on his best behavior at the start of his jury trial. The 25-year-old Angilau responded, "Yeah."
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Student government leaders at the University of Utah passed a resolution Tuesday pushing to change the school's fight song amid concerns it is sexist. The song, which is more than 100-years-old, is called "Utah Man" and includes lyrics such as "our coeds are the fairest." Associated Students President Sam Ortiz says the fight song should be as inclusive as possible to honor campus diversity.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man in his early 30's has died from injuries suffered in a Utah paragliding accident. University of Utah Health Care spokeswoman Marissa Villaseñor says Eric Hill died at the hospital Wednesday morning after he was admitted Sunday. Unified Fire Authority officials said earlier in the week that a 32-year-old paraglider slammed into a hillside Sunday afternoon after barely lifting off from a steep rock bench in Draper known as Point of the Mountain.
