A strong low pressure system will continue to trek slowly northeastward across the southeastern corner of the country on Saturday. Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop across several states, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina, while scattered showers will be possible over eastern Alabama, the eastern Tennessee Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic. A separate low pressure system will slide across the Northeast, bringing a mixture of rain and snow to Upstate New York and New England.
Meanwhile, a cold frontal boundary will stretch across the Intermountain West, the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. A wave of low pressure along the frontal boundary will usher a mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow across the northern Rockies, the Dakotas, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Just to the west of this system, a cold front will approach the Pacific Northwest. Wet weather will push across the Washington, Oregon and northern California during the first half of Saturday, while high elevation snow showers are expected across the Cascades. The heaviest snow is forecast to occur along western facing mountain slopes. By the afternoon and evening, rain will shift over Idaho and western Montana, while mixed precipitation will be possible over the northern Rockies.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across the Four Corners during Saturday afternoon as a low pressure system deepens along the border between New Mexico and Mexico. Southern California will stay clear of precipitation due to high pressure over the eastern Pacific.

Much of the western United States sweltered in a heat wave on this date in 1989 as twelve cities reported record high temperatures. The earliest triple digit recording was reporting at Tucson AZ while Hanksville UT tied their high record of 98 degrees.
