GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE, Cuba (AP) — Lawyers for five men charged in the Sept. 11 attack are seeking to question the FBI about an apparent investigation of defense team personnel in the case.
A motion filed Wednesday in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, seeks testimony from three FBI agents and a prosecutor who also works for the FBI.
The request follows the revelation Monday that FBI agents questioned a defense team evidence technician.
The FBI has declined comment. But lawyers say the agents are investigating how writings from the lead defendant got out without a security review.
Such an investigation could create a potential conflict of interest for the lawyers representing the five prisoners charged with orchestrating the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack. It has already halted a pretrial hearing this week at the base in Cuba.
