GOLDEN POND, Ky. (AP) — Grants are now available to educators interested in taking students on field trips to Land Between The Lakes, a 170,000-acre recreation area on the Kentucky-Tennessee border.

The grants are available to public school districts within 100 miles of the recreation area between the Cumberland and Tennessee rivers. The grants will help schools cover the cost of transportation, admission fees, program fees and dorm rentals during the 2014-2015 school year. The amount awarded will depend on school matching funds, the number of students and the number of planned programs.

According to a news release on the grants, Land Between The Lakes programs support Kentucky's and Tennessee's K-12 curriculum for science, arts and humanities, and social studies. The grant application deadline is April 30.
