HOUSTON (AP) — Former Houston women's basketball coach Joe Curl has died, the university announced Monday. He was 59.

The university said Curl died on Monday morning, but gave no further details on his death.

Curl was 193-167 in 12 seasons at Houston. His led the Cougars to the NCAA tournament in 2004 and 2005 and his wins are the most by a coach in school history.

He resigned after the 2010 season citing heart problems.

Curl was named The Associated Press coach of the year in 2004 after the Cougars won the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles and picked up their first NCAA tournament win.
