OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) — A well-known white supremacist and former Ku Klux Klan leader is being held in Kansas on a preliminary charge of first-degree murder after attacks in Overland Park that killed three people at a Jewish community center and a Jewish retirement complex. Frazier Glenn Cross was arrested yesterday in an elementary school parking lot a short time after the shootings.
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (AP) — Authorities in Utah are trying to figure out how seven dead babies over a decade went unnoticed. The babies were found in cardboard boxes in a Utah garage. Police are seeking answers from the mother and other family members. The mother, 39-yer-old Megan Huntsman, is accused of killing the babies, who were born between 1996 and 2006.
ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Reporters say they saw rescue workers and police gathering body parts and authorities say many people are feared dead in a rush hour explosion at a bus station on the outskirts of Nigeria's capital, Abuja. Hundreds of people were traveling to work at the time. There's no immediate claim of responsibility but bus stations are a favored target of Nigeria's Islamic extremists.
DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — The governor of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine, where several government buildings have been seized by pro-Russian gunmen, says an anti-terrorist operation is underway. There's no comment from the Ukrainian government on the report by the Interfax news agency. A deadline set by Kiev for the gunmen to surrender has passed.
NEW YORK (AP) — Journalism's highest honors will be announced today. A report that revealed the massive U.S. government surveillance effort is among the top finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. Other Pulitzer candidates include a series focusing on one of 22,000 homeless children in New York City. The story in New Jersey that led to the traffic jam scandal engulfing Gov. Chris Christie is also mentioned.
