LEWIS CENTER, Ohio (AP) — Two Ohio organizations are backing a central Ohio school board member in his challenge to colleagues over open meetings.
The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1iHwmG2 ) that Common Cause Ohio and the League of Women Voters of Ohio filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the Fifth District Court of Appeals to support overturning a Delaware County judge's ruling.
Olentangy school board member Adam White sued four board members, alleging they conducted public business through phone calls and emails that circumvented Ohio's Open Meetings Law.
A common pleas judge didn't find a violation of the law. But White appealed, saying the members used the calls and emails to reach a decision that he opposed.
The League of Women Voters says allowing deliberations outside the public eye is bad public policy and violates Sunshine law.
