BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Two-time Olympic gold medalist Abby Wambach has been ruled out from playing in the Western New York Flash's NWSL season-opener at Washington because of a fractured orbital bone below her left eye.

The Flash said Wambach sustained the injury during the U.S. Women's national team's 3-0 win over China at San Diego on Thursday. The injury was confirmed when Wambach rejoined the Flash for their game Sunday.

Wambach is listed as day to day. She is the world's career-leading female scorer and was FIFA's women's player of the year in 2012.
