WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry is expressing strong concern that attacks by armed militants in eastern Ukraine have been orchestrated and synchronized, and are similar to previous attacks in eastern Ukraine and Crimea. Kerry expressed his concern today in a phone call with Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov (SEHR'-gay LAHV'-rahf).
WASHINGTON (AP) — The world's top finance officials say the global economy is recovering. And they say they're hopeful that well-run economic programs will avoid the risks that threaten that rebound. The 188-nation International Monetary Fund concluded talks today in Washington with pledges to work toward faster growth that will alleviate still-high unemployment.
BOSTON (AP) — Thirteen ambulances will be deployed, together with 140 emergency medical service workers on foot patrol, bicycles, utility vehicles and in medical tents for the final two miles of this year's Boston Marathon. It's all part of the improved public safety measures announced by city officials. There will also be more police officers stationed along the marathon's Boston route.
UNDATED (AP) — Federal officials say they've released all 400 head of cattle rounded up on public land in southern Nevada from a rancher who refuses to recognize their authority. The Bureau of Land Management says the cattle were released "due to escalating tensions." The move came today after hundreds of states' rights protesters, including militia, showed up to demand the animals' return to the rancher.
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — A powerful magnitude-7.6 earthquake has triggered large waves in the Solomon Islands and authorities are trying to determine if there has been any serious damage or injuries. Meanwhile, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has canceled a tsunami warning after earlier issuing an alert for some Pacific islands.
