Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday, April 12, 2014

An area of low pressure will move across the eastern third of the country on Saturday, while a cold frontal boundary will extend from the Intermountain West to the upper Midwest.

A wave of low pressure will trek east northeastward across the East Coast on Saturday. This system will usher early morning showers across parts of the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, but high pressure behind this system and bring clear conditions for the remainder of the day. Scattered thunderstorms will also be possible to the west of the Appalachians across the Ohio Valley. To the south, an onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will bring a chance of stray showers and thunderstorms to the western Gulf Coast.

Meanwhile, a cold frontal boundary will stretch from the northern Rockies to the western Great Lakes on Saturday. Widespread precipitation will accompany this frontal boundary, as heavy snow is expected across the northern Rockies, while valleys across the Intermountain West will experience a mixture of rain and snow. Rain will also push across the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. An area of low pressure will develop along the front, bringing a chance of severe thunderstorms to the central Plains and the middle Mississippi Valley.

The majority of the West Coast will stay clear of wet weather on Saturday due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific. Scattered showers will be possible over the central Sierra Nevadas and the Great Basin during the afternoon.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Friday have ranged from a morning low of 17 degrees at Crane Lake, Minn. to a high of 90 degrees at Yuma MCAS, Ariz.
