No new underwater signals have been detected recently and the beacons' battery life is at its expiration point. Officials say they're confident sounds heard so far are from the black boxes.

SEATTLE (AP) — Network operator CenturyLink says problems that caused a seven-hour outage in Washington state 911 service have been resolved. A technical error by a third-party vendor is being blamed. A similar outage in parts of northwest Oregon lasted more than two hours. Both outages happened Thursday morning.
ISLAMABAD (AP) — A Pakistani lawyer says a judge has freed a nine-month old boy accused of attempting to murder police in the eastern city of Lahore after police withdrew charges. The case highlights the country's dysfunctional criminal justice system where even children are not immune from questionable legal decisions. The toddler was brought to court relating to an incident where residents in his neighborhood clashed with police.
