SEATTLE (AP) — A technical error by a third-party vendor is being blamed for a seven-hour outage in Washington state 911 service. CenturyLink says the unspecified vendor worked with the network provider to resolve the issue. A similar outage in parts of northwest Oregon lasted more than two hours. CenturyLink said that was caused by a maintenance issue.
ORLAND, Calif. (AP) — The California Highway Patrol and the National Transportation Safety Board say it could take months to reach a conclusion about the cause of a deadly California bus-truck crash on Interstate 5 north of Sacramento. Mark Rosekind, an NTSB member, says the board will review whether the stretch of California freeway should have had a barrier along the median. Ten people were killed.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities say the woman accused of throwing a shoe at Hillary Rodham Clinton in Las Vegas has been given a misdemeanor disorderly conduct summons and freed after she was booked at the Clark County jail. Investigators say 36-year-old Phoenix resident Alison Michelle Ernst appeared agitated but aware during questioning by U.S. Secret Service agents. Clinton ducked and wasn't struck.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Next week's launch of a commercial supply ship to the International Space Station I in jeopardy because of a balky backup computer outside the ISS. Fixing the device which controls some robotic functions could require a spacewalk. Those functions are needed for when the supply ship comes calling. Officials say the station is in no danger.
NEW YORK (AP) — The biggest weekly drop in the Standard and Poor's 500 index since January has investors wondering if the sell-off is over or just getting started. The stock market hasn't had a correction, or fall of 10 percent from recent highs, since 2011 but, at least for tech stocks, it's inching close. The Nasdaq index has fallen for three weeks in a row.
