ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Uzziel won the $75,000 Santa Paula Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by 2¼ lengths at Santa Anita on Friday.

Ridden by Tyler Baze, Uzziel ran 6½ furlongs in 1:17.19 and paid $86.20, $29.40 and $15.60 at 42-1 odds, the second-longest in the field.

"I wanted her to break strong and show everyone I meant business and then see what they were going to do," Baze said. "When I didn't get pressure from the outside, I just let her run. I let her do her thing."

D'ya Knowwhatimean returned $12.20 and $8.20, while Midnight Dream was another head back in third and paid $8.80 to show. Taste Like Candy, the 6-5 favorite, finished sixth in the field of nine.

Uzziel provided Baze with his third winner on the card.
