PERTH, Australia (AP) — Australian authorities say the search area for the missing Malaysian airliner has shifted because of a "new credible lead." The new search area is 680 miles to the northeast. The lead is based on updated advice provided by an international investigation team in Malaysia. The weather has cleared in the southern Indian Ocean and planes are back in the air.
SEATTLE (AP) — Researchers at the University of Washington say seismic signals show there were two major landslides about four minutes apart during Saturday's disaster in Washington state. The signals show the biggest slide started at 10:37 a.m. and lasted more than two minutes. This is the slide that hit the community of Oso, killing at least 25 people.
NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers hired by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's administration say the governor was not involved in the plot to create traffic jams on a major bridge last fall. The report relied on interviews with Christie and other officials in his administration-- who were not under oath -- and 250,000 documents. There are separate federal and legislative investigations also underway.
MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — One of the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" is in custody in Nicaragua. Police in Managua arrested an alleged MS-13 gang member who is a suspect in the 2010 killings of his 19-year-old girlfriend and her toddler son in New York state. Police say 21-year-old Juan Elias Garcia was detained near the U.S. Embassy and immediately turned over to the FBI.
ELK POINT, S.D. (AP) — A circuit judge in South Dakota is refusing to throw out a defamation lawsuit against ABC related to its coverage of a meat product called lean, finely textured beef, which critics have dubbed "pink slime." Beef Products Inc. sued ABC in 2012 saying its coverage led to the closure of three plants and roughly 700 layoffs by misleading consumers into believing the product is unsafe.
