DARRINGTON, Wash. (AP) — Officials in Washington state say search crews have found an additional body in the debris field from Saturday's mudslide in the town of Oso, about 55 miles northeast of Seattle. That brings the numbers of bodies discovered to 25, but not all have been recovered. Ninety people are listed as missing. Authorities have acknowledged they might have to leave some victims buried in the debris.
PERTH, Australia (AP) — More rough weather in the Indian Ocean has halted the hunt for possible debris from the missing Malaysia Airlines plane. Eleven planes and five ships had planned to search the sea for wreckage from Flight 370. The latest satellite images show 122 objects floating in the turbulent ocean.
NEW YORK (AP) — Attorney General Eric Holder says he hopes the swift conviction of al-Qaida's post-9/11spokesman puts to rest the political debate over where terrorism suspects should face justice. A federal jury in Manhattan on Wednesday found Sulaiman Abu Ghaith (SOO'-lay-mahn AH'-boo GAYTH) guilty of charges that included conspiracy to kill Americans and providing support to al-Qaida. Prosecutors say the conviction vindicates the Obama administration's strategy of bringing terror suspects to justice in civilian court.
BOSTON (AP) — Boston residents are mourning the deaths of two firefighters. They were killed Wednesday when a fire driven by strong winds whipped through a brownstone and trapped them in the basement. Thirteen other firefighters were injured in the 9-alarm blaze in the city's Back Bay district. Several police officers also were taken to hospitals.
ROME (AP) — President Barack Obama meets with Pope Francis on Thursday at the Vatican. Obama is the ninth president to make an official visit to the Vatican. His audience with the pope marks a change of pace for Obama in his weeklong, four-country trip to secure European unity against Russia's aggressive posture toward Ukraine.
