SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Elvis Andrus has some top billing in the Texas Rangers clubhouse after only five major league seasons.
Maybe that Abraham Lincoln-like beard is appropriate.
The 25-year-old Andrus is the Rangers' longest-tenured position player. The shortstop's 757 games played are nearly two full seasons more than any other current Texas player.
The Rangers had their only off day of spring training Wednesday, and Andrus experienced more soreness in his throwing arm. He had a similar issue early in camp.
Andrus insists he's OK and says there's nothing to worry about. But the Rangers scratched him from the lineup Tuesday and he won't throw again until Dr. Keith Meister looks at his right arm later this week. Andrus is signed through 2022, with a vesting option for another season.
