NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Right tackle Zach Strief (streef) has come to terms on a new contract with the New Orleans Saints. Strief, who has spent his entire eight-year career in New Orleans, has agreed to a five-year extension. Last season he started 15 regular season games and both playoff games, giving him 45 regular season starts and four playoff starts in his career.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Veteran race car driver Gary Bettenhausen has passed away. Officials with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway made the announcement and report that Bettenhausen, who drove in 21 Indy 500's between 1968 and 1993, was 72. His father Tony also was a veteran Indy 500 driver.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Jason Day has withdrawn from the Arnold Palmer Invitational because of an injured thumb. Day says he first injured the thumb during the Match Play Championship. This will be the second straight tournament he's had to miss.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Right-hander Chris Tillman has been selected by Orioles manager Buck Showalter to start on opening day against the defending champion Boston Red Sox. Tillman went 16-7 with 3.71 ERA last season and made the AL All-Star team for the first time.
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Detroit shortstop Jose Iglesias says he has stress fractures in both legs and isn't sure when he'll be able to play again, leaving the Tigers two weeks to fill his spot for opening day and beyond. The 24-year-old Iglesias is set to see a specialist in Colorado on Tuesday.
