In her book, Dr. Press shares how the windfall of winning the Florida
lottery affected her life after the giant fake check was stuffed into
the garage. Pressing My Luck takes the reader on a journey of Dr.
Press' life, beginning with her childhood as the daughter of Holocaust
survivors in Camden, New Jersey. It recounts her determination to
become successful, her wild 1970 summer adventure at Paul McCartney's
house, her years of practicing medicine and her harrowing attempts at
dodging con artists. She also candidly discloses how the money didn't
protect her family from life's struggles, such as her husband's near
fatal illness and her son's drug addiction. Thoughtfully drawing from
her experiences, Dr. Press passes on the importance of making and
taking opportunities for attaining personal contentment in life. In
Dr. Press' words, she surprisingly reveals that most of her "expanded
self could have been achieved without the money."
Dr. Press' career as an author includes 22 published articles in
peer-reviewed medical journals. As the former director of the
Pediatric Emergency Department at Jackson Memorial Hospital and former
Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Miami
Miller School of Medicine, Dr. Press has 30+ years of experience
treating children with acute medical conditions and evaluating victims
of child abuse. Despite her lottery windfall, Dr. Press continues to
work in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
Since her lottery windfall, Dr. Press' story has aroused both TV and
print media interest. Last year, Dr. Press shared her lottery
experience on the Katie Couric Show. She was also featured in a 2012
People Magazine article and in a 2010 episode of the TLC reality show
"Lottery Changed My Life." Dr. Press also participated in the 2013
Miami International Book Fair with her own Writer's Row booth. For
