Weather Underground Forecast for Tuesday, March 11, 2014
A cold frontal boundary will stretch from the central Rockies to the Northeast on Tuesday, while a low pressure system continues to develop over the Gulf of Mexico.
An active weather system associated with a cold front will move eastward from the Intermountain West to the central U.S. on Tuesday. A swath of moderate to heavy snow showers will be possible from the upper Midwest to the Ohio Valley, while lighter snow showers are expected over the eastern Rockies and the northern Plains. This system will also bring a mixture of rain and snow to the central Plains, which will create dangerous conditions along roadways. To the south, a low pressure system will continue to develop along the western Gulf Coast. As this system shifts eastward, showers and thunderstorms will pop up across a handful of states. Areas that can expect wet weather include the Gulf Coast, the Tennessee Valley and the Southeast. The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast will stay clear of precipitation throughout the day, although a mixture of rain and snow is forecast to move into the region during the late evening.
Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure is expected to build across the majority of the West Coast on Tuesday. Temperatures are forecast to range between the 70s and 80s across the Desert Southwest. .
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday have ranged from a morning low of -2 degrees at Mt. Washington, N.H. to a high of 82 degrees at Stuart, Fla.
