CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A former South Texas school board trustee has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for sexually assaulting a girl.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1cKuZEy ) that Kingsville school board trustee Rudy Macareno was sentenced by a jury on Friday.

Macareno had been convicted on Thursday of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault.

Macareno was on trial for the 2010 assault of one girl, but three other girls testified they also had been victims. The four girls ranged in age from 7 to 17.

Karen Griffith, Kingsville assistant superintendent for support services, says Macareno resigned from the school board Friday morning. The board will hold a special meeting March 14 to discuss what will happen with his position.
