UNDATED (AP) — Safeway has agreed to be acquired by an investment group led by Cerberus Capital Management, the owner several supermarket chains including Boise-based Albertsons. The deal announced last night will bring together Safeway and Albertsons. Combined, the companies will have more than 2,400 stores, 27 distribution facilities and 20 manufacturing plants.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Park rangers have arrested a man who chained himself to a cement-filled drum to protest the slaughter of bison migrating from Yellowstone National Park. Rangers say 20-year-old Comfrey Jacobs blocked the road to the Stephens Creek corrals near the park border. The Buffalo Field Campaign advocacy group says Jacobs was attempting to stop the shipment of bison to slaughter. Park officials looking to reduce the bison population in Yellowstone hold the animals in the corrals.

JACKPOT, Nev. (AP) — Nevada authorities say a homicide victim found last month in Elko County may have been killed in a domestic dispute. Detectives first thought Leopoldo Filverio-Martinez of Mexico had been killed by members of a Mexican drug cartel. Investigators tell the Elko Daily Free Press they learned he'd been involved in a fight with an unknown person over a woman before his body was dumped off U.S. 93. The victim worked at a dairy farm in Gooding, Idaho.

CHICAGO (AP) — Connor Hill paced Idaho with 27 points and hit two key free throws with seconds remaining in helping Idaho edge Chicago State 79-76 last night. Idaho failed to score a field goal in the final 9:45 of the game but Sekou Wiggs and Stephen Madison hit 9-of-13 free throws down the stretch to help preserve the 3-point win.
