CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — The heads of North Carolina's higher education systems have a message for Gov. Pat McCrory and legislative leaders — don't forget about us on educator pay.
University of North Carolina System President Tom Ross and state Community College System President Scott Ralls told McCrory at Wednesday's state Education Cabinet meeting that employee pay stood among their top priorities during the General Assembly session this spring.
McCrory and fellow Republicans at the legislature last month announced a plan to raise starting K-12 teacher pay to $35,000. UNC and community college instructors — like public school teachers — have had only one small raise since 2009.
McCrory's legislative session goals include raising pay for all educators, but the governor says he can't commit yet because state revenues are uncertain.
